Deland, Gibson Giving Committee

The Deland, Gibson Giving Committee (DGGC) is a philanthropic committee that meets monthly to discuss upcoming events, current happenings, applications for grants, and to brainstorm ideas of how to give back to the communities where we work and live.

Each year, beginning in 2018, the DGGC has hosted a Fundraiser Open House. This event allows our team to meet and network with our company partners while raising money for the Deland, Gibson Fund. After the first year of hosting the event, we raised nearly $2500 for the fund. Our most recent Open House raised over $8,100!

“Giving back to the communities where we live and work” is at the core of our mission – and we are just getting started.

The Deland, Gibson Fund

Friday, December 29th, was a monumental day for Deland, Gibson. It was not only the last business day of 2017, a year in which we had record gross sales growth, but also the day in which we accomplished a goal that we have been working towards for over five years. Spearheaded by the Deland, Gibson Giving Committee via the Foundation for MetroWest, the “Deland, Gibson Fund” was established.

The DG fund was created from the heart and soul of the people who have been a part of Deland, Gibson over the past 20 years.

In the fall of 1998, Kyle McCall, son of employee Susan McCall, was diagnosed with pediatric cancer. The time away from work and expenses such as parking were adding up. The employees of Deland, Gibson recognized this and wanted to help Susan with time and expenses. Born was a creative and fun way to contribute and support Susan and her family – Jeans Friday.

Every other Friday, employees have the option to wear jeans for a $5.00 donation. These donations are tallied quarterly, and Deland, Gibson matches the funds. Over the years, not only has Jeans Friday helped Susan, but it has also helped other employees, charities, and local families in need. Over twenty years later, this tradition has evolved into something bigger. First, it led to the establishment of DG’s flagship committee, The Deland, Gibson Giving Committee. We always knew we wanted to take our contributions and impact to the next level, and now we have by establishing the Deland, Gibson Fund.

The Deland, Gibson fund is especially interested in giving related to:

  • Children and families in the communities that we live
  • Promoting wellness, health, and fitness in our communities
  • Promoting safety and education to our community
  • Helping and supporting non-profit businesses grow
  • Providing education and resources to enable a broader exposure to insurance and risk management for our clients, community, and coworkers

Community Rowing Inc.

In the spring of 2023, DGGC donated to Community Rowing Inc.’s (CRI)’s Giving Day. Community Rowing, Inc. (CRI), founded in 1985 as a non-profit organization, allows individuals of all backgrounds, abilities, and experiences to grow through rowing. The Giving Day donations fund programs that bring rowing to schools at no cost, help provide financial aid, and more.

Our donation granted us the exciting opportunity to name an oar. We wanted to pick something that would inspire young rowers in the youth competitive program. After much consideration, we decided on “Open water.”

“Open water” is a rowing term referring to a scenario in which two boats are racing, and one is in the lead by more than a boat length. When there is no overlap of the boats, there is “open water,” meaning that you are winning by a significant margin. We hope this message inspires rowers at CRI and encourages them to perform their best.
