“Social media” includes such Web sites as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, Yelp and YouTube. Each of these has users numbering in the tens of millions, including employees who may work for you. As with any communication technology, these new media forms carry considerable risks. Just as telegraph transmissions, phone calls, and emails brought new, unique liability exposures, so does social media. As this report will discuss, the nature of those risks hasn’t changed all that much, but the environment in which they are incubated, has changed considerably.
